Flowers in January

In New England we get few enough flowers - between the short growing season and the deer, if it isn't prickly or stinky it's either short-lived or nonexistent. The sight of a full-blown tropical bloom is always a pleasure, but in January it's ridiculously joy-inducing. This is a common hibiscus, garden-variety to lots of folks who live in warm places; but in my Connecticut home with loads of snow outside, it's a small kind of miracle.
