Clamshell Club, Month 4

It's time for my month 4 report from the Clamshell Club!
September has just flown by, and I didn't give this piece the attention it deserves.  Children starting the new school year, agricultural and other fairs, 2 concurrent quiltalongs and more have absorbed my time this month!  I have measured my progress to show you.  Seen here on my crusty-but-trusty breadboard coffee table:

By the way, my kids do take an active interest in my quilting; see the pincushion above?  The pins are artfully arranged so I feel bad every time I take pins out, LOL!  They also nick my tape measure all the time, I really should have 5 or 6 just like this one.

In the interests of process I took a photo of the back; here I admit to wonkiness, bad trimming, and probably overdoing it with the basting!

And just for fun, my favorite picture from last weekend's outing to the Renaissance Faire.  I love the belly dancers!

Must admit I over baste as well. But at least it holds them in place.

  4. You've made fabulous progress. Your clamshells are looking wonderful. The pincushion is a little work of art -- no wonder you feel odd about removing one after they've organized it so beautifully. :-)

  5. Hi Grendelskin: Thank you for dropping by my blog and leaving such a nice comment. I am about to start on my "new direction" which will involve coaching quiltmakers. I hope what I will be saying will be helpful
Are you paper piecing your clamshells? A suggestion would be to try that - draw your clamshells on the dull side of freezer paper and cut them out then iron them on your fabric. Make sure you draw lines at midpoint from top to bottom and from side to side, and then baste the clamshell fabric down to the paper and whipstitch them together, lining up the midlines. I think you will find that insures accuracy.
BTW, drop back to my blog - I am participating in the Fall into Fall giveaway bloghop that Debi is running - sign up for my prize and view the other 140+ participants.
